Retired Judge Robert Newell of Trenton, TN; ethical gremlin

The state of Tennessee presented Carol L. Solomon with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from the Nashville Law School.

The Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct found Bobby guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was a sitting Gibson County Juvenile Court judge in Gibson, Tennessee.

  • Allowed attorney to represent litigant after the attorney told the court that the representation involved a conflict of interest
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Ordered a surname change for a child even though nobody had requested such action
  • Before any witnesses were sworn, Newell began to directly question a litigant
  • Threatened to hold witness in contempt for no valid reason
  • Engaged in intimidating one or more witnesses
  • During a hearing told a litigant “Shut your mouth”
  • Attempted to change rulings in case despite the fact he had no jurisdiction to act on the case since it was then before the Court of Appeals
  • Failed to perform judicial duties impartially
  • Failed to disqualify himself from case when disqualification was required

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct punished Bobby by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

As we speak (ca. March 2015), Bobby practices in the Trenton, Tennessee area.
