Judge Conrad Hafen of Las Vegas; misogynistic bully

The state of Nevada presented Conrad Hafen with a law license in 1989 after he graduated from the University of Idaho Law School.

Over the past twenty-three years, Judge Hafen has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in the Las Vegas area was about to offer him a good paying job. If it weren’t for a government check, Conrad would likely be working as a greeter at the Sam’s Club store at 7175 Spring Mountain Road in Las Vegas.

In a recent (late May 2016) matter, Judge Hafen decided to prove that he’s one of Las Vegas’ Premier Bullies and Misogynists when he ordered a public defender Zohra Bakhtary to be placed in handcuffs and seated next to inmates in his courtroom.

When Ms. Bakhtary attempted to defend her client and prevent him from serving a six-month jail sentence for a probation violation, Judge Hafen ordered her to “be quiet.” When she rightfully continued to speak in defense of her client, Hafen the Bully became outraged and ordered a court deputy to place Ms. Bakhtary in handcuffs and place her in the jury box next to a group of inmates.

The following back and forth then took place between Zohra and Conrad the Bully.

BAKHTARY:  “But there has to be some leniency in this department.”

CONRAD:  "No, there doesn’t’ just.”

BAKHTARY:  “There has to be some indicative circumstance….

CONRAD:  “No. No, there doesn’t.”

BAKHTARY:  “Judge, I would ask the Court not to…”

CONRAD:  “Zohra, be quiet.”

BAKHTARY:  “Judge, you’re asking…”

CONRAD:  “Do you want to be found in contempt?”

BAKHTARY:  “Judge, you’re…”

CONRAD:  “Zohra, be quiet. Now. Not another word.”

BAKHTARY:  “Judge…”

CONRAD:  “Travis [court deputy], right now. I’m tired of it. Right now.” (handcuffed)

Even though Conrad was rightly pilloried by the Las Vegas legal community, he could have cared less. After all, he’s a judge and he absolutely knows he will never be removed from the bench for engaging in this kind of misogynistic bullying.

Only time will tell if the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline takes any action against Conrad. Even if they do, at worst he’ll receive a complimentary reprimand from the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Nevada Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. May 2016), Conrad continues to sit as a Justice of the Peace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
