Judge G. Tony Atwal of St. Paul, MN; serial drunken convict

The state of Minnesota presented G. Tony Atwal with a law license in 2003 after he graduated from Hamline University School of Law.

was duped into appointing Tony as a District Court judge in St. Paul in 2016. Tony didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area. He received the appointment because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

The Minnesota Board on Judicial Standards found Tony guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Pled guilty to driving while intoxicated (DWI), second offense, a gross misdemeanor
  • Failed to behave in a manner that promotes confidence in the judicial system
  • Attempted to use his judicial position to wrangle his way out of being arrested by telling the arresting officer:

"So, I live right there.”

“I'm Judge Atwal from Ramsey County.”

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Standards Commission punished Tony by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. July 2018), Tony continues to sit as a District Court Judge (when sober) in St. Paul, Minnesota.
