Judge Elizabeth Church of Sault Sainte Marie, MI; Dumbo

The state of Michigan provided Elizabeth B. Church with a law license in 1992.

The Judicial Tenure Commission found Liz guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Failed to maintain competence in the law (Dumbo)
• Engaged in improper ex parte (one-sided) communications
• Failed to adopt/accept usual methods of doing justice
• Reduced/dismissed charges w/o holding hearing in numerous criminal cases and w/o the concurrence of the prosecutor
• Improperly reduced sentences in criminal cases w/o prosecutor’s acquiescence
• Dismissed at least 32 traffic ticket cases w/o prosecutor’s approval
• Failed to appoint translator for defendant when required to do so

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Michigan Supreme Court punished Liz by gifting her with a complimentary censure and 120-day suspension from the bench.

As we speak (ca. March 2016), Liz remains sitting as a Chippewa County District and Probate Court judge  in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan.
