Former Judge James Convery of Newark, NJ; bigoted loser

 

The state of New Jersey presented James B. Convery with a law license after in 1969 after he graduated from Seton Hall University Law School.

 

The New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct found Jimmy guilty of engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was sitting as a Chancery Division Superior Court Judge, Family Part, Essex Vicinage.

  • Made disrespectful and insulting comments to a litigant appearing before him
  • Undignified and discourteous comment created appearance of ethnic bias
  • During a motion hearing, defense counsel advised Jimmy that his client wore a hearing aid
  • Jimmy responded to the hearing aid by saying, “What?” – prompting others in the courtroom to laugh
  • When defense counsel further advised Jimmy that this his client’s divorce, he’s had five knee operations, a back operation, a hip and knee replacement and a separated shoulder
  • In response to counsel’s statements about his client’s multiple surgeries, Jimmy said, “It’s a new show, Bionic Woman. You might be better off.”
  • During another hearing involving Mr. Taylor, the issue arose regarding production of Taylor’s Social Security earnings statements
  • Upon learning from Taylor’s attorney Ms. Alvarez that Taylor did not possess Social Security earnings statements, Jimmy appeared incredulous and began asking spectators in the courtroom if they received annual Social Security statements
  • When Ms. Alvarez advised Jimmy that Taylor had not received SS earnings statements for the last three years, Jimmy said, “Well, when did you become an illegal alien?”
  • Engaged in impropriety or the appearance of impropriety
  • Failed to maintain high stands of conduct
  • Failed to conduct himself in manner promoting public confidence in the integrity of the judiciary
  • Failed to maintain order and decorum during judicial proceedings
  • Failed to be patient, dignified, and courteous to litigants, witnesses and other with whom he dealt with in ahis official capacity
  • Failed to be impartial when dealing with litigants of color
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Jimmy’s statement to Ms. Alvarez was deeply offensive in that it was interpreted as a personal attack upon her ethnicity
  • Created an appearance of racial or ethnic bias

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Jimmy by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

 

As we speak (ca. March 2022), Tommy practices his so-called brand of law at 212 Washington Street in Newark, New Jersey.
