Judge Walter Hafner, Jr. of Oswego, NY; ethical elf

The state of New York presented Walter William Hafner, Jr. with a law license in 1978 after he graduated from Nova Southeastern Law School.

The Judicial Commission found Walter guilty of misconduct regarding his campaign for Oswego County Court judge. Walter violated campaign laws by publishing campaign literature that made the following statements.

“Are you tired of seeing career criminals get a ‘slap’ on the wrist? So am I….”
“Soft judges make hard criminals.” (Attack on his opponent)

Walter’s advertisements were prohibited by the Code of Judicial Conduct, a fact he was well aware of. However, in his zeal to obtain a job that paid more then he ever hoped to earn, Walter didn’t much give a damn about the Rules.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Walter by gifting him with a complimentary admonishment.

It must be real comforting for the good folks in Oswego to know that Walter is but another Judicial Misfit running amuck in the area thanks to the comedians sitting on the Judicial Commission.

As we speak (ca. July 2012) Walter remains sitting as a County Court judge in Oswego.
