Judge Howard Shore of San Diego; slacker extraordinaire

The state of California provided Howard Harris Shore with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from Fordham University School of Law.

The Commission on Judicial Performance found Howie guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in a serious dereliction of duty
  • Over a two-year period in 2021 and 2022, Howie was absent from court, without approval or authorization, on at least 155 court days
  • Howie was not present in the courthouse  on a single Friday between May 28, 2021, and November 18, 2022
  • Howie’s absences exceeded his available vacation time by 87 days
  • Howie persistently failed to perform his judicial duties
  • Failed to follow the directives of the presiding judge in matters of court management and administration
  • Howie demonstrated a flagrant disregard for his obligations to his fellow judges, the public, and the
  • reputation of the judiciary
  • Misconduct seriously undermined public confidence in the integrity of the judiciary and cast disrepute
  • on the judicial office

As a direct consequence of his misconduct the apologists for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Judicial Commission punished Howie by laughingly gifting him with a so-called complimentary “severe” censure.

As we speak, (ca. February 2024) Symons continues to dispense his so-called brand of jurisprudence as a Santa Cruz County Superior Court judge in Santa Cruz, California.
