Judge Edward Elum of Massillon, OH; potty mouth, lifetime porker

Judge Edward Elum of the Massillon Municipal Court has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough since he unfortunately was gifted with a law license by the Ohio Surpeme Court in 1977.

From 1977 to 2011 (34 years), Eddy has been a judge (1995-2011), Assistant Attorney General (1983-1992), and Massillon City Prosecutor (1978-1981). Put simply, the $114,000 salary paid to Eddie is the best paying job he’s ever had.

In late 2012, the Ohio Supreme Court’s Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline found Eddy guilty of the following misconduct.

The first matter stems from a hearing Elum held with a man who was on probation and allegedly wasn’t following Eddie’s orders. Eddie spoke to the man without attorneys for the defense or prosecution being on hand, and then made “crude and improper” statements.

Eddie the Moron defended this illegal “ex parte” contact by claiming that the proceeding held in his courtroom wasn’t an official court hearing. In addition to being a moron, Eddie is also an aspiring standup comedian.

The second matter involved the case of a drunken-driving suspect who received sexually explicit text messages and photographs from the city police officer who arrested her. Even though he acknowledged deep-seated concerns about presiding over the case and “strong personal feelings about the allegations against the arresting office,” Eddy didn’t remove himself from the case as he was required to do.

Eddy also “issued court orders that placed himself and the court in the middle of a potential criminal and/or administrative investigation of the arresting office,” which included his request that copies of the text messages and photographs be turned over to him in a sealed envelope, even though there was no legal or judicial reason to do so.

Eddy was also charged for publicly criticizing Police Chief Robert Williams and his department during and after the case.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Eddy by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 6-month suspension from the bench.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Eddy.

As we speak (ca. November 201), Eddy continues to sit as a Municipal Court judge in Massillon, Ohio.
