Former Judge Sarah Eckhardt of Austin, TX; ethical gnome

The State of Texas provided Sarah Eckhardt with a law license in 1998 after she graduated from the University of Texas School of Law.

The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Sarah guilty of the following misconduct, all of which took place while she was a Travis County Judge in Austin, Texas.

  • Wore a pink knitted beanie with cat ears, referred to as a “pussy hat”, while presiding over a meeting of the Travis County Commissioners Court
  • When Sarah introduced a proposed proclamation supporting reproductive health care, she adjusted her hat and said, “Get my cat ears going here for this one”
  • While appearing on a panel discussion at the Texas Tribune Festival, Sarah made the remark that Governor Abbott hates trees because one fell on him
  • Engaged in willful conduct that cast public discredit upon the judiciary

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the Patron Saints for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Donna by gifting her with a complimentary admonition.

As we speak (ca. March 2022), Sarah practices her so-called brand of law at 823 Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas.
