Nevada welcomes convicts to practice medicine

At one time, Dr. Sean S. Steele was licensed to practice medicine in California and Nevada. About a year ago, the ClarkCounty DA’s office charged Dr. Steele with several felonies, including sexual assault. The DA subsequently made a deal with Steele that allowed him to plead no contest to a lesser charge of misdemeanor battery.

The California Medical Board subsequently revoked Dr. Steele’s license, based on evidence and testimony from a woman who said he sexually assaulted her in the back of a Mercedes during an evening of drinking in Las Vegas. (J. Patrick Coolican, Las Vegas Sun)

The official decision of the California Medical Board ruled that Dr. Steele had “brutally sexually attacked” the woman and lied about it under oath. The board called Steel’s behavior “unbecoming to a member in good standing of the medical profession, and which demonstrates an unfitness to practice medicine.”

When the issue came before the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners, they apparently determined that brutally assaulting women in Las Vegas is perfectly acceptable conduct when engaged in by licensed physicians.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, there is no record of any discipline being meted out to Dr. Steele as a result of his criminal conviction.

The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners non-action is in truth an invitation to any and all physicians throughout the country that are convicted (a) wife beaters, (b) child molesters, (c) tax cheats, and (d) assorted criminals. Put simply, the Nevada Board has adopted the mantra of the “Price is Right,” which is “Come on Down.”

And finally, isn’t Nevada a great country? If y’all don’t believe it is, just ask Dr. Sean Steele.
