Will Texas Gov. Greg Abbot support concealed carry Hand Grenades for Teachers

Since the sickening slaughter of 19 children and two teachers an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, Gov. Abbott has refused to take any action to prevent the future sale of AR-15 assault weapons that are intended to kill multiple people. Instead, Abbott supports arming all Texas teachers.

The problem with arming all Texas teachers is that many of them will not be willing to carry a long gun (AR-15 assault rifle) or a .357 Magnum Revolver. And without proper training, most of them would likely kill innocent children while trying to stop a mass murderer.

The effectiveness of a M67 grenade is as follows.

  • Average soldier can throw it 35 meters (114 feet)
  • Effective casualty-producing radius is 15 meters (49 feet)
  • The effective killing radius is 5 meters (16 feet)
  • M67 fuse detonates between 4 and 5 seconds after the spoon is released
  • Total weight of M67 grenade is 14 ounces

Even though most teachers are women, I would think that for the most part they would be able to toss the grenade at least 60 or more feet at a suspected shooter.

More importantly, a female teacher could easily conceal two or three M67 grenades in her purse. Both a male and female teacher could hide one or more M67 grenades in a designated drawer in his/her desk.

When advised of an armed intruder at his/her school, the teacher only needs to come within 60 to 100 feet of the shooter to kill him by tossing an M67 grenade in the suspected area of the intruder.

Providing each teacher with three (3) M67 hand grenades at $45 each would be $135.00. Compare this cost to purchasing any of the following guns.

  • Kaiser US X-7 Monarch AR-15 assault rifle = $1800
  • Springfield Armory Saint Victor AR15 assault rifle= $1,000
  • H&K USP Compact 9mm handgun = $900
  • Rohrbaugh R9 Stealth Elite handgun = $1,195
  • Springfield Armory EMP handgun = $1,100
  • Colt Python Revolver handgun = $1,600

Because there are at least 363,200 public school teachers in Texas, the cost of arming them with 3 hand grenades each would be about $45 million. However, if all 363,200 teachers demanded to be provided with a gun or assault rifle of their choosing at an average cost of $1,266.00 as set forth above, the total cost to the taxpayers would be $459.8 million, which would be ten (10) time more costly.

And lastly, the best thing about arming teachers with M67 hand grenades is that overburdened Texas taxpayers will not have to bear the cost of providing gun lessons to its teachers.
