Judicial watchdog loses bid for job with Supreme Court

David Palmer, a self-appointed judicial watchdog, has applied for a job opening at the Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel's Office.

But Disciplinary Counsel Jonathan E. Coughlan says Palmer "didn't even make the first cut.''

Coughlan said he is looking for a lawyer to fill the assistant disciplinary counsel slot.

Last year, Coughlan charged Palmer with the unauthorized practice of law, a complaint that eventually was tossed out.

"He's not qualified,'' Coughlan said yesterday. "He doesn't even come close. This is someone who goes to court.''

Palmer appears in court, but usually to file complaints against judges.

In a letter to Coughlan, Palmer wrote, "If hired I will forgo any salary of any kind.''
