Judge Rio Achas of the Philippines; ethical goblin

The Philippine Supreme Court provided Rio Concepcion Achas with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from the University of the Philippines School of Law.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines found Judge Achas guilty of the following misconduct.

• Failed to avoid impropriety or appearance of impropriety in his activities
• Failed to properly assure that Clerk of Court collected bail bonds, rental deposits and other fiduciary collections for immediate deposit with the municipal treasurer
• Failed to behave as to promote public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Republic of the Philippines Supreme Court punished Judge Ocampo by gifting him with a complimentary Fifteen Thousand Pesos (P15,000) fine and a stern warning that similar conduct in the future would be dealt with more severely.

As we speak (ca. August 2020), Ocampo continues to sit as a First Municipal Circuit Trial Court Judge in Tupi, South Cotabato, Philippines.
