Sheriff Joe Arpaio: Today’s “Humanitarian” Award Winner

This isn’t the first Award presented to Joey. In the past, he has been the recipient of two (2) Awards and the subject of one (1) Opinion Pieces. Those Awards and Opinion Pieces are listed at the end of this article and can be viewed by going to the listed categories.

In late 2007, the founders of the Phoenix New Times wrote an article wherein it published Joey’s home address that was publicly available since he was an elected official, as part of its investigation of his acquisition of six commercial real estate properties in transactions that were not made public.

Joey responded to the story by demanding that the Maricopa County Prosecutor charged that the information published by the New Times presented a “timely threat. Two separate prosecutors declined to so act.

However, former County Prosecutor Andrew Thomas appointed a special persecutor, I’m sorry I mean prosecutor who issued two subpoenas and then empanelled a grand jury. On the night that the New Times published a story, Joey the Humanitarian had the owners were arrested on charges of violating the secrecy of a grand jury.

Subsequently, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Baca, declared the subpoenas invalid because they were not obtained with the approval of any grand jury nor were they approved by Judge Baca, who was in charge of convening grand juries in Maricopa County.

As a consequence of Joey’s Humanitarian conduct, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors settled the lawsuit brought by the owners of the New Times by paying them $3.75 million due to their arrest by Joey that was cone under false pretenses.

Congrats Matty; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Humanitarians”; you are far too humble.
