The Law Society presented Ian West with a license to practice law in 1996.

The Bar Standards Board found Ian guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in appalling and monstrous behavior towards judge
• Failure to comply with court order displayed act of defiance
• Perverted the course of justice
• Refused to return to court in defense of client
• Found guilty of contempt of court
• Engaged in willful and deliberate disobedience of a court order
• Displayed breathtaking arrogance

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Barrister Misfits sitting on the Standards Board punished Ian by gifting him with a complimentary censure.
