Attorney Martin Rumack of Ontario, CAN; ethical leprechaun

The Law Society of Upper Canada presented  Martin King Ian Rumack with a law license in 1992 after he graduated from the University of Toronto Law School.

The Hearing Committee for the Law Society found  Marty guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in an egregious conflict of interest
  • Engaged in professional misconduct
  • Represented borrowers and lenders in connection with four real estate transactions
  • Placed himself in a situation of further conflict by acting in the role of a broker in 4 transactions as well as acting as a broker in 3 other transactions where he also acted for the lenders
  • Arranged or recommended participation of a client as an investor in a syndicated mortgage where the Marty was also an investor;
  • Failed to reveal relevant information about the status of the mortgages to his lender clients
  • Acted in a conflict of interest by continuing to be involved in transactions when the mortgage payments were returned for insufficient funds and power of sale proceedings were commenced

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Hearing Committee punished Marty by gifting him with a complimentary 1-month suspension of his law license and ordered to pay costs of $20,000 to the Law Society.
