Solicitor Jan Horak of Australia; serial cheater

The Victorian Law Society presented Jan Horak with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from Dalhousie University School of Law.

The Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal found Jan guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Charged client $36.75 to fax his bank details so client could pay him
  • Charged client $68.50 to send out a receipt and cover letter
  • Billed client $6.58 a minute for simple administrative duties such as receiving cheques in the mail and leaving phone messages
  • Billed a client for a phone call to advise a client’s fax machine was out of paper
  • Billed his client’s $395 an hour for tasks including reading text messages and checking his online bank account
  • Overcharged two clients who between them were billed $265,000

As one would suspect, this isn’t Jan’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received two (2) complimentary suspensions of his law license for engaging in a variety of misconduct.

As a direct consequence of his egregious misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Victorian Civil & Administrative Tribunal punished Jan by gifting him with a complimentary 2-year suspension of his law license that expires in May 2020.

As we speak (ca. March 2019), Jan will again be able to practice his so-called brand of law beginning in May 2020 with Horak Frankovich Rose & Cross at 1038 Dandenong Road in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
