Today’s Public Official Misfit is Cameron County, TX DA Armando Villalobos

The state of Texas presented Armando Villalobos with a law license in 1993 after he graduated from Southern Methodist (SMU) Law School.

On May 7, 2012, Armando was indicted by the Feds for racketeering, which related to his alleged acceptance of bribes in regards to a murder case involving Amit Livingston. The deal between Villalobos and Livingston allowed him to enter a plea to the murder charge in exchange for a 23 year sentence.

According to the Feds, the bribe to Armando came from Brownsville attorney Eduardo Lucio who made two cash payments totaling $80,000.

As expected, Armando said he is not guilty of the charges and will not step down as DA nor withdraw his bid for Congress. If history tells us anything, it should be long before Armando accepts a plea deal from the Feds.

Because Armando refuses to resign his position as County DA even though he’s been criminally indicted, a petition for his removal was filed with the District Court by Harlingen attorney Juan Angel Guerra on behalf of Trinidad Salinas. (Brownsville Herald)

For the sake of the good folks in the Brownsville area, the judge assigned to hear the removal petition will tell Armando to take a hike!

After Armando cops a plea, I’m hopeful the sentencing judge will order that he be placed in cell no. 136 along with Clarice (real name is Clarence) at the Federal Correctional Institution in Bastrop, Texas.
