State Rep. Wm. Scarborough (D-NY); Today’s Public Official Misfit

William Scarborough is a New York State Assemblyman who represents a district in Queens.

On October 2, 2014, Billy was arrested on charges of abusing the state’s travel voucher system. At his subsequent arraignment, Billy pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and filing false documents.

Billy was specifically slapped with eleven (11) federal charges that he cheated the state by submitting 174 vouchers for at least $40,000 in sham travel and lodging expenses from 2009 through 2012. The charges include Billy’s abuse of a system that entitles lawmakers to $172 for meals and lodging for every day they’re in the capitol; however, Billy billed for days he wasn’t in Albany.

In addition, Billy faces twenty-three (23) state charges that he used more than $38,000 in campaign funds for his own personal benefit.

All that’s left now is to wait and see how long it takes Billy to cop a plea. If he doesn’t, I hope the sentencing judge sends him to Sing Sing for a very long time.

And lastly, had Billy been a judge in Ohio and submitted fabricated travel expense claims he would not have anything to worry about. In fact, judges who do so in Ohio are allowed to retain taxpayer funds they obtained for the phony travel expenses they claimed.
