► Joseph Percoco of New York: Today’s Public Official Misfit

The state of New York presented Joseph Percoco with a law license in 2005 after he graduated from St. John’s University Law School.

In 2011, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the appointment of Joey to serve as his Executive Deputy Secretary.

In late November 2016, Joey was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of bribery solicitation, extortion and conspiracy. The charges relate to efforts to spur the upstate New York economy.

The indictment came about from two schemes in the awarding of hundreds of millions of dollars in contract. They included efforts by Joey and Cuomo aide, Todd Howe, to illegally enrich themselves via bribery that was intended to benefit favored companies. How has already pled guilty to the criminal charges lodged against him.

One scheme called for Joey to take $315,000 in bribes in exchange for assisting an energy company and real estate developer that were at the time clients of Mr. Howe.

Another scheme involved bribes paid to Mr. Howe involving Buffalo Billion, a $1 billion project that was intended to revitalize the area around Buffalo.

All that remains now is to see how long it takes for Joey to cop a plea and plead guilty to the bribery charges. Hopefully the sentencing judge will send Joey to Leavenworth Penitentiary and order that he be assigned to Cell No. 88 where he’ll be roomed up with Clarice (real name Clarence) who is known to be one of the friendliest inmates in the joint.
