Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad: Today’s “Screwball” Award Winner

Congratulations to….

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad

Today’s “Screwball” Award Win

Terry is yet another loser lawyer that learned early on how difficult it would be to earn a dishonest living practicing law; therefore, he decided to go into the second most ethical profession (used car salesman No. 1), politics.

In addition, Terry has had his significant snout firmly implanted in the public trough for thirty-two (32) years since receiving his law license. Apparently, no self-respecting law firm in Iowa was about to offer him a good paying job.

In a recent (late April 2016), Terry signed a proclamation wherein he encouraged everyone in Iowa to participate in a statewide Bible-reading marathon. (Laurel Raymond)

Shortly thereafter the ACLU, the Freedom from Religion Foundation and the Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers asserted that Terry’s proclamation illegally promotes one religion over others and over non-religion. Rita Bettis, Legal Director of the ACLU of Iowa said:

  • “The governor’s proclamation is frankly outrageous and embarrassing, and inconsistent with our core American and Iowan principles of inclusion and respect of all its people of all faiths, as well as those who are not religious.”

The so-called proclamation begins by saying it is:

  • “In the name and by the authority of the state of Iowa.”
  • “The Bible is recognized as the one true revelation from God.”
  • “All Scripture is essential to prepare us to be the people God wants us to be.”

Terry’s unconstitutional proclamation states in part:

  • “I, Terry E. Branstad, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby encourage all Iowans to join this historical 99 County Bible Reading Marathon, and furthermore, encourage individuals and families in Iowa to read through the bible on a daily basis each year until the Lord comes.”

Apparently, Teddy opted out of enrolling in and/or attending Constitutional Law courses on the separation of church and state that were given when he attended Drake University Law School.

Congrats Terry; keep up the good work! We should let everyone know of your amazing record as one of Americas Least Appreciated “Screwballs”; you are far too humble.
