Former State Sen. Ira Silverstein of Chicago: Today’s “Pompous Loser” Award Winner

The state of Illinois provided Ira Isaac Silverstein with a law license in 1985 after he graduated from John Marshal School of Law.

FYI: John Marshall is ranked as the 166th best law school in the country out of 202 ABA accredited schools.

Ira is another in a long list of loser attorneys that decided to go into politics after learning how difficult it was to earn a dishonest living practicing law after he graduated in from the John Marshall School of Law.

From 1999 thru January 2019, Ira was a member of the Illinois State Senate. Ira was defeated by over 20 points by Ram Villivalam in a primary race. Ira then resigned several days before the start of the 101st General Assembly in January 2019.

Ira’s defeat can be attributed to him being charged with:

  • Conduct unbecoming a legislator
  • Subject of sexual harassment allegations
  • Victims’ rights advocate Denise Rotheimer testified about hundreds of messages and phone calls from Silverstein that she described as unwanted sexual advances during an Illinois House Personnel and Pensions Committee hearing on a sexual harassment bill
  • Ms. Rotheimer accused Ira of holding her "hostage" with intimate, often late-night messaging and pulling support from a bill helping crime victims after he found out she had a boyfriend

After being forced to resign his State Senate seat, Ira had the chutzpah to seek of job as a Cook County Circuit Court judge, a job that pays over $192,000 a year plus healthcare and pension benefits.

So, now we have someone who is clearly not qualified to sit on the bench and who has allegations of sexual harassment hanging around his neck, claiming he deserves to become a circuit court judge in Chicago.

Skokie lawyer Brad Rosen stated that Ira is not qualified to hold a judgeship in Skokie. He went on to say:

  • "He is not competent, nor does he have the integrity to judge a dog show"
  • "No insult to dogs intended."

Hopefully, the voters in Skokie are smart enough to not elect someone of Ira’s ilk as a circuit court judge.

As we speak (ca. November 2019), Ira practices his brand of law at 10 South LaSalle in Chicago, Illinois.
