Attorney Steven Copenhaver of Houston; pervert

The state of Texas provided Steven C. Copenhaver with a law license in 1974 after he graduated from the University of Houston Law School.

The Florida State Bar found Jean guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Stevie was accused of offering legal services in exchange for sexual favors. Subsequently, was arrested and released from jail on a $750 bond. (Houston Chronicle)

The arrest affidavit said Stevie offered to represent a Round Rock woman’s husband if she and her sister-in-law would perform sex act with him and each other. The police report stated that Stevie told Leigh Heavin that he would accept sex in lieu of legal fees incurred by Heavin’s husband, who was facing a criminal charge for assaulting her.

During a visit to the Heavin’s home, Stevie allegedly told Leigh and her sister-in-law, Malinda Tilley what he was looking for. In addition, he told the two women they “might have to do this [sex act] a couple of times.”

Shortly after his arrest, Stevie had the chutzpah to say,

  • “I am deeply apologetic to my family and friends.”
  • “I hope that all of them will support me during this difficult time.”
  • “Please keep me in your prayers.”

Apparently, Stevie wiggled his way out of the criminal charges.

Dawn Miller, then Chief disciplinary counsel for the State Bar of Texas, laughingly said exchanging legal services for sexual favors could constitute a violation of rules barring “illegal or unconscionable” fees. Miller went on to say that punishment could range from reprimand to disbarment.

As one would suspect, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on Disciplinary Counsel at the Texas State Bar didn’t take any disciplinary action against Stevie the Perv.

As we speak (ca. November 2014) Stevie practices with the Law Offices of Stephen C. Copenhaver at 310 South Austin Avenue, in Houston, Texas.
