Attorney Gary Schmidt of Appleton, WI; unethical moron

The state of Wisconsin presented Gary J. Schmidt with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from William Mitchell Law School.

The Office of Lawyer Registration (OLR) found Gary guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Gary represented a client facing criminal charges. After the client’s conviction, Gary failed to file the statutorily required notice of intent to seek post-conviction relief, despite the client's expressed desire to pursue such relief. The client then filed a pro se notice of intent with the Court of Appeal. Subsequently, the court ordered Gary to explain why he failed to file the notice of intent to seek post-conviction relief.

In another matter, Gary again failed to file a notice of intent to seek post-conviction relief on behalf of a criminal client. Again, the client was forced to file a pro se notice, which again led the Court of Appeals to issue an order to Gary for him to explain why he failed to file the notice.

In a third matter, Gary was appointed by the State Public Defender to represent a client in civil contempt proceedings in regards to a paternity action. Despite his client’s desire to seek appellate relief, Gary was more than one month late in filing the notice of intent to pursue post-conviction relief.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wisconsin Supreme
Court punished Gary by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. March 2013) Gary practices with the Le Grand Kaukaulin Law Firm at 1033 West College Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin.
