Attorney Howard Blyler of Cowen, WV; slacker, loser

The state of West Virginia presented Howard J. Blyler with a law license in 1976 after he graduated from West Virginia University Law School.

The Lawyer Disciplinary Board found Howie guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to advise estate heirs that $96,000 in estate funds had been seized by tax authority for the purpose of taxes that Howie personally owed and failed to pay
  • Failed to advise Circuit Court probate funds had been seized from his account for personal tax arrearages
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Up yours, said Howie!)
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to safeguard client funds
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
  • Failed to expedite client litigation
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds

As a consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the West Virginia Supreme Court punished Howie by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2016), Howie practices in Cowen, West Virginia.
