The state of Maine presented Travis R. Williams with a law license in 1994 after he graduated from the University of Richmond Law School.

The Third District Subcommittee of the Virginia State Bar found Travis guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to advise client of client’s need to sign Writ of Habeas Corpus
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
  • Client never received definitive response as to the status of the Writ of Habeas Corpus that was prepared by Travis
  • Client’s Writ of Habeas Corpus was dismissed because it was not signed by the client
  • Prepared second Writ of Habeas Corpus for client to sign but failed to advise him that the original Writ had been summarily denied because it had not been signed by the client
  • Failed to respond to reasonable client information requests
  • Client did not discover dismissal of his Write of Habeas Corpus until after he filed ethics complaint against Travis
