Attorney Stuart Cottee of Philadelphia, PA; ethical gremlin

The state of New Jersey presented Stuart Thomas Cottee with a law license in 1999 after he graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law.

The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics found Stu guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in gross neglect
  • Failed to communicate with his client
  • Failed to explain a matter to the extent reasonably necessary to permit the client to make informed decisions
  • Failed to set forth in writing the basis or rate of the fee
  • Made false statement to disciplinary authorities (Screw you, said Stu!)
  • Engaged in conduct involving fraud, deceit, dishonesty or misrepresentation
  • Knowingly assisted or induced of another to violate the professional rules of conduct, or to did so through the acts of another

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the New Jersey Supreme Court punished Stu by gifting him with a complimentary 3-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2023), Stu practices his so-called brand of law at 645 Porter Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
