Attorney Gilbert Rucker III of Warren, OH; ethical misfit

The state of Ohio presented Gilbert Robert Rucker III with a law license in 1986 after he graduated Cleveland State University Law School.

The Lorain County Bar Association found Gilbert guilty of the following misconduct

In one matter, Gilbert was hired by Ollie Mae Peterson of Youngstown, 78 years of age at the time to investigate the merits of and to represent her in a possible civil action against Peterson’s bank for failing to prevent a former employee of Peterson from embezzling money from her account.

Gilbert had Peterson sign a fee agreement that he failed to sign that required Peterson to pay “initial compensation” for services in the sum of $1,500 and further provided that Gilbert had received a $1,500 payment that was non-refundable upon commencement of his services at an hourly rate of $150.00.

A short time later, Gilbert told Peterson that he believed that she didn’t have a claim against the bank. However, he was unable to provide any documents proving what work or services he performed on Peterson’s behalf nor did he provide any account as to how her $1,5000 “initial compensation” was used.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Ohio Supreme Court punished Gilbert by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.
