Attorney Philip Adkins of Snow Camp, NC; repeat offender

 

The state of North Carolina provided Philip S. Adkins with a law license in 1981 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina Law School.

 

The Committee on Professional Conduct found Phil guilty of the following misconduct.

 

Phil’s 1st bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to purse client’s workman’s’ compensation case for over three years
  • Failed to discuss relevant matters regarding client matter with client
  • Failed to attend calendar call in Superior Court on client’s behalf
  • Failed to respond to client inquiries
  • Intentionally avoided communicating with client
  • Failed to fully cooperate with ethics investigators (Screw you, said Phil!)
  • Violated or attempted to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct, knowingly assisted or induced another to do so, or did so through the acts of another
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Phil by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

  • Failed to provide requested trust account records to ethics investigators (Up yours, said Phil!)
  • Failed to properly maintain entrusted client funds
  • Failed to reconcile trust accounts
  • Misconduct involved multiple offenses
  • Failed to maintain minimum records required for general trust account
  • Failed to maintain client ledgers
  • Failed to provide mandated annual accountings to clients
  • Used client entrusted funds for the personal benefit of persons other than the legal or beneficial owners 
  • Failed to promptly pay clients or third parties as directed to do
  • Failed to perform monthly/quarterly reconciliations of trust account
  • Caused potential significant harm to his clients by failing to properly manage their entrusted funds

As a consequence of his misconduct the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Committee on Professional Conduct punished Phil by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 2-year suspension of his law license.

 

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Grievance Committee didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Phil.

 

As we speak (ca. February 2019) Phil practices at 192 Sheep Rock Road in Snow Camp, North Carolina.
