Attorney Harvey Bunis of Rochester, NY; tax cheat

The state of New York presented Harvey S. Bunis with a law license in 1977.

The Grievance Committee of the 8th Judicial District found Harvey guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on his fitness to practice law
  2. Engaged in conduct reflecting on her honesty and trustworthiness
In late 2010, Harvey was charged with criminal felonies of failing to pay his New York State income tax for six years. Because Attorney Misfits in New York are held to a lower standard of conduct then everyone else, the prosecutor (another attorney) dismissed all six felonies and allowed Harvey to plead guilty to one misdemeanor count of failing to pay his taxes.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the unabashed supporters of Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee of the 8th Judicial District punished Harvey by gifting him with a complimentary censure.

The Grievance Committee members had the chutzpah to grant Harvey mitigation because he expressed “extreme remorse.” That must mean he donned a pair of industrial strength knee pads when he repeated said to them I’m Sorry.

The comedians on the Committee also gave Harvey credit in mitigation because he said he suffered from family difficulties. Family difficulties made me commit six felonies, said Harvey.

It must be comforting to the good folks living in Rochester to know that there is yet another criminal with a law license running amuck in their area.
