Attorney Matt Albert of Darien Center, NY; ethical ogre

 

The state of New York provided Matt A. Albert with a law license in 2008 after he graduated from the State University of New York Buffalo School of Law.

 

The Grievance Committee of the 4th Judicial Department found Matty guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Engaged in sexual relationship with a client while representing client in divorce
  • Represented client in a matter in whicha reasonable lawyer would conclude that there will be asignificant risk that the lawyer’s professional judgment onbehalf of a client will be adversely affected by the lawyer’s ownfinancial, business, property or other personal interests
  • Commingled client funds with personal funds
  • Failed to maintain required bookkeeping records for seven years
  • Failed to maintain records of all deposits and withdrawals from bank accounts under his control
  • Failed to make contemporaneous and accurate entries of all financial transactions in his records of receipts and disbursements, ledger books, and any other books of account kept by him in the regular course of his practice
  • Engaged in undignified or discourteous conduct in appearing as a lawyer before a tribunal
  • Knowingly engaged in illegal conduct
  • Disregarded, or advised a client to disregard, a standing rule of a tribunal or a ruling of a tribunal made in the course of a legal proceeding;
  • Knowingly made a false statement of fact concerning the qualifications, conduct or integrity of a judge or other adjudicatory officer
  • Engaged in illegal conduct reflecting on his honesty and trustworthiness
  • Engaged in conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Grievance Committee punished Matty by gifting him with a complimentary 6-month suspension of his law license.

 

As we speak (ca. June 2021), Matty practices his brand of law at 2166 Church Road in Darien Center, New York.
