Attorney Joel Alan Silberman of New York City; convicted druggie

The state of New York provided Joel Adam Silberman with a law license in 1986 after he graduated from Fordham Law School.

Unable to earn a decent living as an attorney and because no self respecting law firm was about to offer him a good paying job, Joel bought a restaurant and worked as a cook in the evening. Joel picked an appropriate name for the restaurant, calling it the “Chameleon.”

A patron named Victor Maldonato began frequenting the restaurant and offered Joel some cocaine, which he cheerfully accepted. Eventually, Joel’s drug use escalated and he allowed Victor to sell drugs at the restaurant.

Later one Joel opened a second restaurant called “Onyx,” where he was the executive chef. A few weeks later Joel was arrested when the police raided Chameleon.

Joel later pleaded guilty to of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony. In 2006 and as a result of his conviction, Joel was disbarred.

In 2011, the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Disciplinary Committee for the 1st Judicial Department reinstated Joel’s law license.

Isn’t it comforting to know that there’s yet another convicted felon practicing law in New York City?
