Attorney Robert N. Going of Amsterdam, NY; repeat offender, loser

The state of New York presented Robert Neil Going with a law license in 1980 after he graduated from Albany Law School.

For several years, Going sat as a judge on the Montgomery County Family Court. During his tenure on the bench, the Judicial Commission filed misconduct charges against Bobby on two occasions. Subsequently, the Commission found Bobby guilty of the following misconduct.

1st bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree

While presiding over visitation proceeding Bobby dismissed the petition on the false reasoning that the petitioner failed to submit to a psychological evaluation. When the petitioner asked for a lawyer, Bobby responded by saying he was dismissing the petition and said, “It appears to me that you are more than a little nuts.”

As a consequence of his mistreatment of the petitioner, the Commission punished Bobby by gifting him with a complimentary admonishment.

2nd bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree

While on the bench, Bobby began a romantic relationship with attorney Karen Judd who he later appointed as his personal law clerk. Bobby would write poetry and send love notes to the Karen on court stationary and during the time he was being paid by the taxpayers.

When the relationship soured, Karen Judd began to date Geoffrey Major, an attorney who appeared in Family Court as an appointed law guardian. When Bobby found out about the relationship he directed the court administrator to not assign any new cases to Mr. Major as law guardian. The Commission ruled that Bobby’s conduct was clearly intended as retaliation against Mr. Major and Ms. Judd.

As a consequence of his second bite at the Judicial Misfit Apple Tree, the Judicial Commission ordered that Bobby be removed from his judicial position.

As we speak (April 2012) Going is practice law at 14 George Street in Amsterdam, New York.
