Attorney Kathleen Schmidt of Omaha, NE; thieving slacker

The state of Nebraska presented Kathleen M. Schmidt with a law license in 1987 after she graduated from Creighton University School of Law. Kathy also received a license to practice law in DC and the state of Washington in 1987.

The Disciplinary Counsel found Kathy guilty of the following misconduct.

  • In marriage dissolution matter, failed to comply with discovery rules
  • Violated her oath as an attorney licensed to practice in Nebraska
  • Failed to act fairly to opposing party
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to respect the rights of third persons
  • Misappropriated [stole] client funds
  • Used funds belonging to other clients to repay another client
  • Failed to safeguard client funds
  • While acting as conservator for a client, Kathy was responsible for making monthly rental payments for her client’s storage unit, but failed to so act on at least for times
  • Violated or attempted to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct, knowingly assisted or induced another to do so or did so through the acts of another

As a direct consequence of her misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Nebraska Supreme Court punished Kathy by gifting her with a complimentary 1-year suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. May 2021), Kathy practices her brand of law at 13307 Spring Street in Omaha, Nebraska.
