Attorney Terrance Shanahan of Gaithersburg, MD; moronic slacker

The state of Maryland presented Terrance James Shanahan with a law license in 2002 after he graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) found Terry guilty of engaging in the following misconduct.

  • Failed to provide competent representation (moron)
  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to safekeep funds in an attorney trust account
  • Filed frivolous pleadings
  • Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
  • Refused to dismiss his clients’ lawsuit after opposing counsel advised him that their claims had previously been discharged in bankruptcy
  • Bankruptcy court determined that the Respondent’s clients’ violation of the discharge injunction was malicious and without any good faith basis and entered an award of attorneys’ fees and sanctions
  • Failed to advise the parties to various transactions that he was closing his firm
  • Failed to make arrangements to transfer of client funds
  • Failed to maintain accurate client matter records for his attorney trust account

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, the apologists for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Maryland Supreme Court punished Terry by gifting him with a complimentary 60-day suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2022), Terry practices his so-called brand of law with Mitchell Rubenstein & Associates PC at 12 South Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
