Attorney James Chipokas of Cedar Rapids, IA; ethical dwarf The state of Iowa presented James L. Chipokas with a law license in 1960.
The Iowa Supreme Court Disciplinary Board found Stephen guilty of the following misconduct.
In one matter, Jimmy represented a client who suffered injuries in an automobile accident. The fee agreement called for Jimmy to receive one-third of the client’s net recovery. When the case settled for over $122,000, Jimmy knowingly overpaid himself $10,000 in fees that he wasn’t entitled too.
Over the next several years, Jimmy’s clients demanded an accounting of how he distributed the settlement funds and how he calculated his fee; however, Jimmy never responded to said requests.
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Stephen by gifting him with a complimentary 1-year suspension of his law license.
As we speak (ca. January 2014), Jimmy practices at 305 2nd Street NE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
