In one matter, a client hired Cathy in regards to a custody dispute matter that was pending in Illinois.

Although the client new that Cathy wasn’t licensed to practice in Illinois, she relied on her to find her an licensed Illinois lawyer to represent her in regards to a hearing on the father’s application for custody.

Cathy totally neglected doing anything to secure Illinois counsel for her client, which led to an order removing her child from her home and into the custody of the father. Subsequently, the client employed an Illinois attorney who requested that Cathy turn over the client’s file to him; however, she refused to do so.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Cathy by gifting her with a complimentary reprimand.
