The state of Iowa presented Richard J. Murphy with a law license in 1964,

The Iowa Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Board found Dick guilty of the following misconduct.

• Engaged in a conflict of interest
• Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
• Improperly represented buy and seller in real estate matter
• Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice law
• Violated Probate code regarding estate matter
• Failed to decline representation when required to do so

As a consequence of his misconduct, the Cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Iowa Supreme Court punished Dick by gifting him with a complimentary 18-month suspension of his law license.

As we speak (ca. November 2015), Dick practices with the Murphy Law Office at 116 West Jefferson in Osceola, Iowa.
