Attorney Melanie Reichert of Indianapolis; ethical dwarf

The state of Indiana provided Melanie K. Reichert with a law license in 1998.

The Indiana Disciplinary Commission found Melonie guilty of the following misconduct.
  1. Failed to abide by a client’s stated objectives as to representation
  2. Failed to act with reasonable diligence (slacker)
  3. Failed to keep client reasonably informed about status of legal matter
  4. Failed to comply with client requests for information
  5. Refused to comply with request for information from Disciplinary Commission (Up Yours, said Melanie!)
  6. Engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice
In one matter, Melanie agreed to represent a client in a custody dispute. Prior to a court hearing on the dispute, the client told Melanie she would settle the matter by allowing the father to have custody, if certain conditions were met.

Melanie later presented the client with an agreed entry drafted by opposing counsel, but the client specifically rejected the entry because it contained one condition that was unacceptable to her. The client then confirmed with Melanie at least twice that the hearing on custody had been postponed due to the ongoing settlement negotiations. In fact, the hearing took place and Melanie (but not her client) attend. During the hearing, Melanie signed, on behalf of her client, the agreed entry that the client had specifically rejected.

In another mater, Melanie failed to respond to several of her criminal client’s requests to explain her legal bill. Melanie obtained a continuance of a criminal hearing w/o notifying her client, and failed to appear at the trial scheduled for her client.

As a consequence of her misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Indiana Supreme Court punished Melanie by gifting her with a complimentary 30 day suspension of her law license.

As we speak (ca. October 2012) Melanie practices with Broyles Kight & Ricafort, PC at 8250 Haverstick Road in Indianapolis, Indiana.
