The state of Illinois presented James Jerome Romberg with a law license in 1970.
The Disciplinary Commission found James guilty of the following misconduct.
James engaged in the Unauthorized Practice of Law (UPL) while his license was suspended. James is lucky he doesn’t practice in California. In California, UPL violations can be prosecuted as felonies.
In addition, James failed to communicate with at least two clients. He also failed to initially cooperate with the disciplinary commission. Put simply, James told the commission “Up Yours!”
As a consequence of his misconduct, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court punished James by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 90-day suspension of his law license. In truth, the comedians sitting on the Illinois Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to James.
