The state of Alabama presented Lawrence Johnson Hallett Jr. with law license in 1976 after he graduated from the University of Alabama Law School.

The Alabama State Bar Association found Larry guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Charged a clearly excessive fee (cheater)
  • Improperly divided fee with lawyer not member of his firm’
  • Knowingly acquired security or pecuniary interest adverse to client
  • Engaged in conduct adversely reflecting on fitness to practice
  • Had client execute fee agreement for $100,000 + interest in divorce matter
  • Made client sign promissory note for $100,000
  • Allowed paralegal to draft fee agreement, promissory note and security agreement and was not present when the documents were executed

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Alabama Supreme Court punished Larry by gifting him with a complimentary 90-day suspension of his law license.
