Judge Lu Ann Ballew of Newport, TN; Judge Roy Bean Wannabee

FYI: Judge Roy Bean was a saloon-keeper and Justice of the Peace in Val Verde County, Texas, who called himself “The Law West of the Pecos.” Roy was also referred to by some as a “Hanging Judge.”

Unfortunately for the folks living in Cocke County, Tennessee, Lu Ann Ballew is employed as a Child Support Magistrate Judge in the Cocke County Chancery Court, which is a court of general jurisdiction.

In addition to being a Judge Roy Bean Wannabee, Judge Ballew is also a practicing religious zealot who believes she has a right to foist her so-called religious beliefs on others.

Recently Jaleesa Martin and the father of her child appeared before Judge Ballew to have her settle a dispute between them as to what the boy’s last name would be.

When Ballew discovered that the baby’s first name was Messiah, she immediately ordered that his name be legally changed to Martin. Instead of doing what she was asked and required to do, Judge Ballew arbitrarily changed the baby’s first name from Messiah to Martin.

According to Ballew, she changed the baby’s name, because in her demented mind, only one person earned the name Messiah, “and that one person is Jesus Christ.”

Ballew the Zealot said she was thinking of the child’s future wellbeing when she made the decision to change his first name. She went on to say, “It could put him at odds with a lot of people and at this point he has had no choice in what his name is.”

Ms. Martin has appealed the Zealot’s unlawful name changing order to the Chancery Court, which will hear arguments on September 13, 2013.

It’s a given that Judge Ballew will never be charged with judicial misconduct because violating someone’s due process rights hardly ever results in a judge being disciplined, especially in Tennessee.

You’ve got to wonder how in the hell a zealot like Ballew ever ascended to the bench. Obviously she missed her calling as a Standup Comedian.
