Judge Monte Harrelson of Green Sea, SC; ethical gremlin

Monte has been plying his so-called brand of justice in Horry County since June 1993 as a magistrate judge. Apparently, Monte was not successful in applying for a job as a greeter at the Conway Walmart Supercenter on Myrtle Ridge Drive in Conway, South Carolina.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel found Judge Harrelson guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter, Monte found it acceptable to engage in a sexual relationship with an Administrative Assistant employed with the Horry county Central Traffic Court. At the time, the Administrative Assistant was married and living with her husband.

All of the sexual encounters between Monte and the assistant took place outside of the work place and he provided her with gifts and financial assistance.

When confronted by her husband about the affair, the assistant admitted she was involved in an extra-marital affair with Monte. When the Chief Magistrate was notified of the affair, he immediately took steps to re-assign the assistant so that she would not be working directly for Monte.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the patron saints for Judicial Misfits sitting on the South Carolina Supreme Court punished Monte by gifting him with a complimentary reprimand.

As we speak (ca. October 2015), Monte continues to sit as a Horry County Magistrate in Green Sea, South Carolina.
