Former Judge Chuck Griffith of Norfolk, VA; bullying loser 

Charlie was found guilty of the following misconduct by the Virginia Judicial Commission, all of which took place while he was a Norfolk Circuit Court judge.

In one matter, Chuck presided over the case of Tyrone Alphonso Wilson on drug-dealing charges. Wilson was defended by attorney Allan D. Zaleski.

Shortly after Chuckassumed the judicial throne, Zaleski was among several lawyers in Norfolk who petitioned to have him barred from hearing criminal cases.

Suffice it to say that Chuck wasn’t happy with Zaleski’s conduct in demanding that he be prohibited from hearing criminal cases. Despite the contents of the ad, then chief judge Charles Poston allowed Chuck to sit on criminal cases and expressed confidence that he would know when to step aside when his objectivity might be reasonably be questioned.

A confrontation began when Zaleski attempt to have Wilson’s drug indictment before a different judge, but Charlie insisted that he could be fair. However, Chuck then dressed Zaleski down and had him removed from the list of court-appointed lawyers.

When it appeared that the case was heading to another judge, Chuck put forth a special effort to keep the case. Just before the case came to trial, Chuck refused to consider a plea bargain give Wilson four years in prison, a deal the prosecutor and Zaleski had agreed too.

The Virginia Supreme Court ruled that in refusing to consider the peal deal, Chuck erred in a way that “adversely affected Wilson.”

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Virginia Supreme Court punished Chuck by gifting him with a complimentary censure.
