Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. of Baltimore; scofflaw; moron, ethically deprived

Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. was criminally charged in early 2008 of dumping hundreds of tons (that’s hundreds of tons folks!) of building materials (aka, trash) along his waterfront property in Anne Arundel County.

In June 2008, Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. pleaded guilty to illegally filling state wetlands and was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay a fine of $10,000 and remove the debris (trash).
Additionally, Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. was ordered by the sentencing court to pay the county $6,500 in damages. As a result of Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. being allowed to plead guilty to “one criminal count,” an addition twelve (12) criminal charges were dropped. Isn’t that special? Only further proves that judges are held to a “lower standard of conduct,” right?

Subsequently, an ethics complaint was lodged against Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. in regards to his criminal conduct with the Maryland Commission on Judicial Disabilities.

As expected, the enablers and apologists on the Commission rewarded Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. by presenting him with a “complimentary private reprimand.” That’ll teach Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. a lesson he won’t soon forget, right?

Unfortunately, Judge Askew Gatewood Jr. remains on the bench in Baltimore. Isn't it comforting to know that the good citizens of Baltimore can continue to be judged by an admitted criminal?
