Judge Christian Coomer of Atlanta, GA; greedy loser

The state of Georgia provided Christian Coomer with a law license in 1976 after she graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law.

FYI: Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Christian as a Court of Appeals judge in October 2018. Christian didn’t receive the appointment because he was the most qualified attorney in Georgia. He received it because he had proven to be a reliable lackey for the local political hacks.

The Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission is investigating Judge Coomer for engaging in the following misconduct, all of which took place while he was practicing law and before he was appointed as an appellate judge.

• Made himself a beneficiary and his wife the executor when drafting wills for a then-client James Filhart
• Drafted an irrevocable living trust for his client that designated Coomer as the trustee and beneficiary, with the power to transfer funds to himself while the client was still alive
• A company owned by Coomer is accused of borrowing $369,000 in a series of three loans from the client, the first of which was paid off on the day that the second loan took effect
• Two of the loans listed the client’s own home as security
• The third loan was unsecured
• Coomer transferred funds from his campaign account to his law firm account to cover minimal or overdrawn balances
• Declared a $50,000 loan to his campaign that was fictitious
• The ethics investigation was initiated began after a lawsuit alleged Coomer committed malpractice, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty in his representation of Mr. Filhart, with the lawsuit subsequently being settled by Judge Coomer’s malpractice insurer
• The former client, James Filhart, is now 79 years old, the commission said in the Dec. 28 charges. Coomer began representing Filhart when the client sought guardianship of his girlfriend in a nursing home. Coomer charged $80,000 for the representation but did not provide itemized billing records when Filhart asked for them, the commission alleged.

As a direct consequence of his misconduct, Judge Coomer was forced to accept a temporary suspension from the bench with pay.

All that remains now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Judge Coomer by the enablers of Judicial Misfits sitting on the Georgia Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. February 2021), Judge Coomer is receiving a taxpayer funds salary of $175,000 or $14,500 a month while basically on vacation due to his temporary suspension.
