Attorney Stephen Goetzmann of Dallas; ethical gremlin

The state of Texas presented Stephen Russell Goetzmann with a law license in 1990 after he graduated from St. Mary’s University Law School.

The District 6-A Grievance Committee found Stephen guilty of the following misconduct.

  • Failed to act with due diligence (slacker)
  • Failed to keep client informed of status of legal matter
  • Did little to nor work on client’s case
  • Failed to respond to client phone calls
  • Failed to return client file after being fired
  • Failed to timely file notice of appeal on client’s behalf
  • Failed to comply with client’s request for information
  • Failed to explain matters to client to allow him to make informed decisions regarding representation
  • Withdrew representation of client without good cause
  • Failed to respond to ethics complaint (Up yours, said Stephen!)

As one would suspect, this wasn’t Stephen’s First bite at the Attorney Misfit Apple Tree. He previously received one (1) complimentary stayed suspensions of his law license.

As a consequence of his misconduct, the cheerleaders for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Texas Supreme Court punished Stephen by gifting him with a complimentary stayed 18-month suspension of his law license.

In truth, the comedians sitting on the Texas Supreme Court didn’t mete out any meaningful punishment to Stephen.

As we speak (ca. March 2015), Stephen practices at 9400 North Central Expressway in Dallas, Texas.
