Judge Gerald Popeo of Utica, NY; bully, loser  

The state of New York presented Gerald Popeo with a law license in 1979 after he graduated from Georgetown University Law School.

In November 2000, Popeo duped the voters in the Utica area to elect him as a Utica City Court judge.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct found Judge Popeo guilty of the following misconduct.

In one matter,Judge Popeo chided a defendant who appeared in his court for the disposition of a harassment charge. Popeo wasn’t pleased with the defendant speaking to his attorney while Popeo was addressing the courtroom. Popeo was also unhappy with the smile the defendant wore as he faced him. Popeo then said to the defendant:

• “You’re standing there with a grin that I would love to get off the bench and slap off your face.”

Popeo followed up his threat to assault the defendant by saying:

• “What are you laughing about? You're in a courtroom, handcuffed, in an orange jumpsuit being issued an order of protection, and you're laughing.”
• “How about 30 days in jail for contempt, that’s hilarious, too, isn’t it?”

In a second matter, Popeo made improper comments when he stated that the prosecution’s seizure of $400 from a defendant in a drug case wasn’t any of his business because the DA may have wanted the money “to buy a new couch for his office or something else.”

All that’s left now is to see what punishment is meted out to Judge Popeo by the enablers for Judicial Misfits sitting on the Maine Supreme Court.

As we speak (ca. February 2015), Popeo remains sitting as a Utica City Court judge in Utica, New York.
