Attorney Tan Abraham of Malaysia; ethical misfit

The Malaysia Bar Society presented Tan Sri Cecil Abraham with a law license in 1991 after he graduated from the University of London Law School.

The Malaysia Bar Council charged Tan with the following misconduct.

In one matter, Bar Council alleged that Tan was engaged in the unauthorized preparation of a statutory declaration (SD) for private investigator, the late p. Balasubramaniam.

The substance of the complaint is that Tan prepared the contents of the SD when it was well known that Balasubramaniam’s lawyer at that time was Americk Singh Sidhu.

The contentious SD was put forth to counter Balasubramaniam’s first sworn statement, which had incriminated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and several other personalities in relation to the 2006 murder of Attantuya. (The Malaysian Insider)

All that remains now is to see what if any punishment is meted out to Tan by the Bar Council.

As we speak (ca. February 2015), Tan continues to practice law in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and London, England.
