Justice Deborah Karalunas of Syracuse, NY; moronic loser

The state of New York presented Deborah H. Karalunas with a law license in 1982 after she graduated from Syracuse University Law School.

The West Virginia Judicial Investigation Commission found Judge Swisher guilty of the following misconduct.

In a recent ruling, the Appellate Division, 4thDepartment, sent a case that Debbie presided over for a new hearing on the plaintiff’s motion to set aside a verdict.

In its ruling, the Appellate court found multiple errors by Debbie in regards to the limited, in-chambers investigation she conducted before deciding in 2013 to set aside the jury verdict for the defense in the dental malpractice case. The court said:

  • “We agree with defendants that the court abused its discretion in conducting an in camera interview of the complaining juror without notifying counsel, without seeking counsels’ consent to that procedure … and without providing counsel with an opportunity to be heard or to participate, even in some restricted manner, in the interview of the juror.”
  • “We conclude that the court abused its discretion in failing to conduct a more expanded investigation, including, at a minimum, conducting an interview of all of the jurors.”

The court went on to say:

  • “The court [Debbie] abused its discretion in prohibiting counsel from contacting any jurors until after plaintiff’s motion to set aside the verdict was decided.”
  • “This unnecessary prohibition essentially precluded defendants from obtaining and submitting any meaningful opposition to plaintiff’s motion, the practical result being that the granting of plaintiff’s motion was a foregone conclusion.”

The overburdened taxpayers are now required to expend even more money to conduct additional hearings as a result Debbie’s incompetence. Of course Debbie doesn’t much care how much it costs, since it isn’t coming out of her pocket.

As we speak (ca. February 2016), Debbie continues to sit as an Onondaga County Supreme Court Justice in Syracuse, New York.
